The Christmas Market on the Marienplatz in Munich is one of the traditional Christmas Markets in Munich. Mulled Hot Wine, Waffles, hot chestnuts or candied nuts are just some of the basics that you can find at this market. Besides the very picturesque Christmas Market in the English Garden, at the Chinese Tower, the Christmas Market at the Marienplatz in the City Center is definitely the most-visited in Munich. When walking from the Train Station you can already find the first booths at the Karlsplatz/Stachus, followed by each here and there a few along Kaufinger- and Neuhauserstreet until the big Marienplatz.
The Christmas Market in front of the Neo-Gothic town hall at Marienplatz can be visited from the late morning, but especially starts to shine when the sun drops and everything is illuminated. A real highlight is the towering Christmas Tree that is year after year almost sky-high. As the city center, and the Marienplatz, are all day long already highly frequented the number of people just grows in the late afternoon and evening. So be aware of many people wanting to have a good time, or just running downstairs the Marienplatz to catch their next Train. Soon I’ll share a Guide on Public Transport in Munich, that will be linked here. But besides these German Christmas Market Basics the booths and stands offer festive products like candles or Christmas (Tree) Decorations, handmade products like gloves or hats and much more. The typical Food at Christmas Markets in Munich, or generally in Germany, are hot wine “Glühwein”, the “Nürnberger Lebkuchen” Gingerbread and hot sausages in a bun “Bratwurst” or with ketchup and curry powder “Currywurst”.
The Christmas Market in Munich on the Marienplatz in the City Center is open until December 24th. Enjoy your time there, if you are going to Munich! Below you can find some Impressions of my visit to the Christkindlmarkt in Munich.
