Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh City Centre

Just recently Leonardo Hotels Group opened their first Hotel in Scotland, Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh City Centre. In fact, they took over the former Premier Inn Hotel back in October 2016 and are now constantly transforming it into a Leonardo Hotel while the Hotel remains open. Currently, most of the furniture and decorations are still in the signature purple colour by the former Hotel Group. And yes, the renovations are definitely needed. The Location of the Hotel is not straight in the City Centre as the name promises, but close to Edinburgh Haymarket station with many Restaurants and Supermarkets/Shops nearby, what allows you to stay in a Hotel in Edinburgh on a budget.

Even though check-in is usually possible from 2 pm when I arrived at the Hotel by 1 pm I was already able to go to my room. On their website they advertise the 282 hotel rooms as ‘lavish and modern’, well, this is (not yet) the case. Purple and wooden decor dominate my ‘Comfort Room’ at Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh City Centre. And a rotten smell of age. There are two hotel room categories in this Hotel, ‘Comfort Single Room’ and ‘Comfort Room’. As both types did cost the same for my scheduled stay, I went for the larger room category. The Comfort Room can accommodate up to 4 people and besides this, it features a work desk, bath or shower, coffee and tea making facilities and a 20″ HD Flatscreen TV. About the WiFi I read multiple statements, that it’s free for everyone, only complimentary for AdvantageCLUB members but when I arrived at the Hotel in Edinburgh they stated that WiFi is Free to everyone as the Hotel is under renovation. At least, WiFi is free. From my Room on the fourth floor I had a relatively bad WiFi reception, but when it worked now and then it was quite fast.

Overall, I would not stay at Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh City Centre again before it’s fully refurbished. The windows could not be closed properly, and also the room could not be heated equally, what made me truly freeze anytime I was not covered by multiple blankets. Additionally, the smell of the Room was far from anything enjoyable. And, who invents (and uses) a washbasin with boiling hot water and freezing cold water on each side, so far away you can’t use both properly to wash your hands without either freezing or boiling them? Again, I’m really looking forward to this Hotel to be renewed by Leonardo Hotels and to be turned into what is called a Hotel.
