Christmas Market in Tettnang 2015

With the first Advent right around the corner, the festive season is already ahead of us. A nice Tradition is Christmas Markets, with its origins in Strasbourg. The Christmas Market in Tettnang is (one of a few) Christmas markets I’ll visit until the end of the Year, and it was already a great start to this series.

Tettnang is situated on a Hill overlooking Lake Constance and the area around it. If there are no clouds you can even see some Swiss Mountains. Once the Counts of Montfort built their Castle on a Place with one of the best views. Their Castle is the location of the Christmas Market in Tettnang. More than 20 Christmas booths offer homemade goods, cookies and culinary delights. Among the homemade goods you can even find some presents for your loved ones if you want to gift them something original.

The Christmas Market in Tettnang is characterized by its large program and activities you can’t find anywhere. Storytime and crafts for kids, hourly musical performances of local bands and musicians and a traditional Saint Nicholas that gifts Chocolate to Children on December 5th, Saint Nicholas Eve. The Castle will be turned into a huge advent calendar this year for the first time. Even though the Tettnang Christmas Market is not open every day it’s one of the most loved in the German Lake Constance area, among Lindau and Constance. The Market in Tettnang is open from the first to the third Advent, each on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Another Highlight is a traditional Christmas crib exhibition inside the New Castle, more about the opening hours can be found in a separate article I’ll share here on Monday.

Vegetarians can find many nice things to eat at the Christmas Market in Tettnang as well, which is definitely not common. The Traditional Foods at German Christmas Markets are the German bratwurst in a bun and the hot mulled wine Glühwein. Besides these classics, you can find Kässpätzle, Pizza, Crepe Pancakes, chocolate fruits, Bread on a skewer or Schupfnudeln, what I had. I can recommend the pulled pork, Italian Arancini or the ‘Swabian burger’ for everyone else. Because Christmas Markets are all about Food, and having a great time…
