Football Museum Manchester – (almost) Free Entry!

My visit to the National Football Museum Manchester taught me a lot. Especially that I’m actually less interested in Football than I thought. As this Museum was advertised as ‘free entry’ I had to visit it. Located just a few minutes by foot from the Shopping Street ‘Market Street’ you can find the Museum in the picturesque Urbis Building. In total there are 7 levels besides the ground-level, of which only the first three can be viewed by visitors. On Level 5 and 6 there will soon open a Restaurant from Michelin star chef Michael O’Hare.

As a Charity Organisation, the National Football Museum in Manchester offers free admission to everyone but does need Donations. The Staff at the Counter informs you about this and in order to receive a booklet of the Museum you have to pay 6 Pounds, at least. According to their website, the ‘suggested donation is £3’. After your successful forced donation, you can enter the Museum on the Ground Level. There you can find the ‘Hall of Fame’, the ‘Football Walk of Fame’ as well as a Shop and a Café when leaving again. The other Levels can be either reached by stairs, or via an inclining lift.
The Museum itself is a mix of various smaller exhibitions, activity areas and historic memorabilia. The Shirts they used to play Football with back in 1872, what women are and were wearing and of course trophies and anecdotes. More Details on what can be found on what Level is here on this website.
