Why you should visit Galleria d’Arte Moderna Palermo on the first Sunday of a month

Established in 1910 the Modern Art Gallery Sant’Anna in Palermo is the cities major museum of modern art. Galleria d’Arte Moderna, short also known as GAM, is located in the historic centre of the city, in the quarter of Kalsa, in a complex consisting of the former Franciscan convent of the Church of Saint Anne Mercy and the adjacent Palazzo Bonet at Via Sant’Anna 21b. Galleria d’Arte Moderna is open six days a week, every day except Mondays. And the reason why you should visit Galleria d’Arte Moderna Palermo on the first Sunday of a month is that the admission is free to everyone on this specific day only, otherwise, the full price ticket costs 7€ per person. If you’re planning a Budget-friendly Trip to Palermo you should definitely consider this.

From 1910 until 2006 the exhibition was housed in the entrance of Teatro Politeama, with only parts of the inventory visible.
However, even from the beginning, this was intended to be only a temporary solution. Just a few years ago the Galleria d’Arte Moderna Palermo finally found a suitable place, in the historic centre of the city. The gallery houses works of important artists like Giovanni Boldini, Massimo Campigli, Carlo Carrà, Felice Casorati, Eustachio Catalano, Giorgio De Chirico, Ettore De Maria Bergler, Emilio Greco, Renato Guttuso, Nino Franchina, Lia Pasqualino Noto, Antonino Leto, Salvatore Lo Forte, Francesco Lo Jacono, Vincenzo Ragus, Pippo Rizzo, Mario Rutelli, Aleardo Terzi, Onofrio Tomaselli, Mario Sironi and Franz von Stuck .
