Accorhotels Group newly opened a stylish Hotel in the City Centre of Manchester, ibis Styles ‘The Portland’. Located on Portland Street and close to Piccadilly Gardens the Hotel is easily accessible and both Restaurants and Shopping possibilities can be reached within a short walk. The ibis Styles The Portland is actually so newly opened, it is still under construction. As a Guest, you don’t have to walk through a construction site, but several levels are completely ‘in the making’, causing lots of noise. Before you are continuing to read, personally I would totally book the Hotel again after they finished all the works, so at least in summer 2017, not earlier.
Portland Street is absolutely a prime location for a stylish design Hotel in Manchester. A 20-minute ride with Uber from the Airport in low traffic, or about half an hour by Train to Piccadilly Station and a 5-minute walk, the Hotel can be reached with any budget. ibis Styles is definitely my favourite Hotel Brand by Accorhotels, a French Hotel Group. Even though ibis budget is the most-affordable Category, ibis Styles Hotels have mostly been super stylish during my recent visits. They feature design details that match the City or area they are located. Flowery Grass-like Carpets in the German Allgäu, or, like in Manchester, the theme of rainy weather with umbrellas, raindrops and more. From outside the Hotel is a bit tricky to find, as there is only one small ‘Ibis Styles’ Sign above the main entrance. Just look for the red Jamboree Signs, this is the Hotels Restaurant and easier to find.
The Atmosphere inside ibis Styles Portland Hotel Manchester is relaxed and check-in is done at two stations when entering the Building, not at a formal Reception Desk. As I paid my Room in advance they handed me my Room card within a minute, and I was ready to take a Lift to the third floor. Two Lifts serve 7 Floors, with x Hotel Rooms in total. My Room, Number 312, was facing Portland Street and is conveniently located close to the elevator. For a better overview, below you can find a YouTube Video with my walk around my Hotel Room in Manchester. “The Solo” features a bathroom with a shower, a room with a large bed, small working table with a chair, wall mounted flat-screen TV, a stool and an open wardrobe including an Iron with an ironing board and a hairdryer.
Breakfast which is offered free of charge is served every day until 10 am at Jamboree. During the Day it’s a public Restaurant for Lunch, Dinner and Drinks while in the morning it’s for Hotel Guests only. Besides Juices, Water and Hot Beverages (Tea, Cappuccino,…) the Breakfast includes fresh Toast, Baguette, Muffins, Brioche, fresh Croissants, Musli, Cheese, Ham, Cucumber, Yoghurt, 4 different kinds of Jelly and more. My daily highlight was the Croissants. Small sized you can enjoy at least two, while they are still warm and soft and buttery and just perfectly amazing. I really wish I could eat those Croissant every day, seems like I have to come back to ibis Styles (in Manchester) soon!
The only negative aspect of my stay at ibis Styles Manchester in January 2017 is that the Hotel is still under construction. Works usually started at 8 am during my visit and often lasted until 6 pm. As a Hotel Guest, I did not get in touch with any dust or anything in public areas, just noises from right above, right below and probably right next to the head end of my bed one morning. As someone once pressed a wrong button in the Lift I stopped at level 2 and got a good insight into a room that was still under construction, otherwise, I experienced only noise. Therefore, if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing stay, I highly recommend staying at the Hotel later this year. If you are anyway not at the Hotel between 8 am and 6 pm, perfect for you!
