Ice Cream in a Macaron Sandwich - MIMA Ice Cream Barcelona, La Boqueria

Usually, Food Trends are born in New York, and the lines for crazy shakes or cronuts are also nowhere as long as there. Luckily you can also get a Food Trend in Barcelona, an Ice Cream in a Macaron Sandwich at MIMA Ice Cream Barcelona in the Market La Boqueria. The market offers everything from fresh fruit and veggies to warm and cold snacks to Tapas Restaurants with live cooking. Due to the location just off the famous La Rambla, everything is pretty much touristy. When entering the market from the Rambla, take the main passage and soon you will find MIMA Ice Cream Barcelona to your left. Popsicles, Ice-Cream in various flavours, and Macarons filled with Ice-Cream. A true Instagram-friendly place!

For a price of 4,00€, you can choose among flavours and colours such as Oreo, Cheesecake or Kinder. As vanilla macarons are anyway my favourite, and they always have a white/cream-colored shell, I opted for a Tiramisu Macaron Ice-Cream Sandwich. Fortunately the Macaron Sandwiches aren’t served straight for your hand, they come with a little spoon in a boat-like cup. Super convenient! As there is not much space in front of the ice-cream parlour at the Boqueria, as it’s located in the main corridor, I walked all the way to the other side of the market, to have a seat in the sun. At first, I was amazed that the ice did not melt a bit during that walk across the fish market and in between dozens of tourists. But, unfortunately, the ice was so cold, it was more than frozen. Both the ice-cream and the Macaron shells were hard as stone. I even had problems scooping a bit of ice with the spoon and broke half the macaron by exerting too much pressure. Luckily I had the macaron ice cream sandwich still in the cup, as it was a true mess. I ended up eating the outer layers of the ice-cream, luckily it’s round, and, what I usually don’t do, put it in the trash. The Macaron did not taste good at all, and neither did the ice-cream. The Ice was hard but somehow sticky at the same time (maybe because it was shock frozen after it once melted a bit!? I don’t know..).
