Lake Constance Bike Tour #1 – 17 km Friedrichshafen-Tettnang-Eriskirch

Bike Tour Friedrichshafen Tettnang Eriskirch

Bike Tours as part of an active Lifestyle. Something quite new to me, but I’m so looking forward to being a little more sporty and this is the first Article of a “Bike Tours”-Series. Whenever I have a Bike, some time and energy and after I’ve done a nice Tour you’ll find Articles about it on an irregular basis here on JoyDellaVita (as well as German ones on Hyyperlic.com). As a first edition, I’m taking you on a 17 km long – short – Lake Constance Bike Tour starting in Friedrichshafen, almost going up to Tettnang and then driving lake-bound via Mariabrunn through Eriskirch and back to Friedrichshafen.

Lake Constance Bike Tour #1 Friedrichshafen – Tettnang – Eriskirch – Friedrichshafen

Starting the Lake Constance Bike Tour from the Harbour in Friedrichshafen, where many bikers land after taking a ship or arriving at the homonymous train station, most parts of this Tour are on specific bike lanes or bicycle path. I’ve done this Tour on a Sunday afternoon and the ways were even more crowded than I expected, but like one biker every 500m so it was still enjoyable. Once you’ve reached Paulinenstraße which is still in the city centre you drive until you reach the so-called “Seewald” forest. If you want you could do the first break from this Lake Constance Bike Tour here and enjoy the silence in between, or keep on pedalling. Drive now right side the B30 road, passing some houses and even the river Schussen that you will meet later in Eriskirch again. Follow the road to the right and after a few hundred meters you turn right, again, to a lake-side direction. On this longer route, there is only one bike path, on the left side next to the road for cars.

Opposite the first hopyard, that is very famous for Tettnang, I’ve done the first break from my Lake Constance Bike Tour. Drinking water, spitting out the chewing gum, eating a banana and sharing pictures on Instagram. Unfortunately, there weren’t any benches so I sat on the asphalt. Continuing the Lake Constance Bike Tour on the Mariabrunner Straße, which leads to the small town called Mariabrunn which is a part of Eriskirch, a town with a little more than 4000 inhabitants. Alongside you’ll soon pass more hopyards, smaller apple orchards and cornfields. The backcountry of Lake Constance offers a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, wine, hops and simply lots of nature.

In the village Dillmannshof, which you will pass, there is the Landhaus Vier Jahreszeiten that is a Garni-Hotel but unfortunately, I’m not sure if they are open as a Restaurant, as well as they, offer breakfast for their Guests only. Right on the opposite, you find a little chapel that was wide open when I passed it. I just took a picture and continued towards the centre of Mariabrunn. Driving by the soccer field, there is a restaurant if you’re hungry or thirsty, and the local school the Lake Constance Bike Tour goes on by crossing the roundabout and following the green bike-signs towards Friedrichshafen for the last 6 km. The final sprint now leads you through some little village and as a highlight through a roofed wooden bridge (built in 1828) over river Schussen, again. Here in Eriskirch, you drive onto the parking lot of a supermarket/shopping centre, always keep right, and drive along until you’ll pass the yellow town sign of Friedrichshafen again. Located each on the left and right side there is a youth hostel and a huge camping area as well as some possibilities for food and drinks. Now you can continue driving my Lake Constance Bike Tour on the road or pushing your bike along the lake to enjoy some last views on the water, after having seen so much country life. And the Lake Constance Bike Tour #1 ends where it started 17 km and about 1 hour ago, at the Harbour of Friedrichshafen (Friedrichshafen Hafen). Now you can enjoy a well-deserved ice cream from one of the cafés on the waterfront promenade.

I can’t say how many more Lake Constance Bike Tours I will publish here, probably a few rather shorter ones than once around the Lake-ones with almost 200km, but how knows what the Future (an eBike?!) will bring. Feel free to leave your Feedback below in the Comment-Section!
