Lipno Dam Bike Tour – 16 km Frýdava – Svatý Tomáš – Frymburk

Lipno Dam Bike Tour Sumava Bohemian Forest JoyDellaVita Travelblog

Explore the Beauty of the Bohemian Forest with this Lipno Dam Bike Tour! Driving a Bicycle in between nature is pure bliss, especially if you will be rewarded with a great view after driving uphill. When visiting Sumava, the bohemian forest in the Czech Republic, I was already excited to do a Lipno Dam Bike Tour on a Bicycle Route even before I even left for this Trip. This 16 km long Tour started at the Ferry dock in Frydava, led uphill to the Ruin in Svaty Tomas with a great view all over Lipno Dam and back via Frydava and a Ferry to Frymburk. Long story short, a nice Trip.

What I like most about Bike Tours is that you are close to nature but on the other side you are faster than walking and can see more in less time. Besides all the truly beautiful nature along the way a Highlight was “Vítkův hrádek”, a ruined castle from around 1200. There are even two webcams at the Castle, check it out here for Live Views on Lipno Dam. Castle Vítkův hrádek is situated on the 1035m high summit of Vítkův Kámen, with a beautiful round view. In 2006 they opened the Viewing platform, you have to pay a little fee of 50 KC (2€) for the entrance, from where you can have a View both on the Czech Republic and Austria. For more historic related information, read further on Wikipedia. You can find the exact address down below, above the Map of my Lipno Dam Bike Tour.

For Bike Rentals at Lipno Dam and in Frymburk I can recommend “Lipno nad Vltavou – Lipno Centre Rental” that luckily was just next to my Hotel, Wellness Hotel Frymburk. Besides regular Bikes they offered eBikes as well, and this is what I’ve chosen. The way all up to Svaty Tomas was steeply uphill and I was so happy that I’ve chosen this electric bike. eBikes, or Pedelecs, support you up to a certain speed. For example when I was starting on an incline once the bike immediately pushed a little so it felt like I was riding on a straight level. What scared be a bit was that one brake was not working properly, especially when we were driving downhill again and I reached speeds up to 40 km/h. Thanks to my helmet, that I borrowed as well, I was all save and nothing happened. Fore further Information on Lake Lipno, check out their official Tourism website. And Hotels in Frymburk can be found here.
