Qatar Airways Flight Review: Doha to Adelaide (Airbus A350 Economy Class)

Qatar Airways Doha Adelaide Economy Class JoyDellaVita

In 12,5 hours Qatar Airways is flying from Doha to Adelaide in South Australia. The Qatar-based Airline is connecting these Cities daily, since May 3rd, 2016. On this Flight from Doha to Adelaide, I got to experience the Economy Class, here now my first Qatar Airways Review (another one about the Journey from Doha to Munich in Germany follows). On this Route from Doha to Adelaide, Qatar Airways is using their newest model range, the Airbus A350 XWB (or Airbus A350-900). Co-developed by Qatar Airways, the Airbus Plane was designed for long-haul flights with the best comfort on board in every class.

On board the Qatar Airways Airbus A350 XWB there are only two classes, Business Class and Economy Class. Theoretically, 283 people, plus board crew, fit into the plane. Fortunately, my flight was not fully booked, which meant a free centre seat in the economy class which is comparable to Business Class on short circuits in Europe – optimal conditions for half a day flight time! The boarding process in Doha begins by order of seats, the rear rows may enter first, and the front ones as the last one. Already when entering the plane, and arriving at my 36K window seat, there was already a pillow, a blanket and headphones waiting on every seat. After most people sat and boarding was closed, small Amenity Kits were distributed. These grey bags contained each a sleeping mask, a pair of socks, a pair of earplugs, a toothbrush and a small portion of toothpaste. How cool, all the things I did not put into my hand luggage for this long-haul flight.

To keep passengers busy there is the ORYX One Entertainment System on board, available at every seat. Everyone can access thousands of music titles, brand-new movies, classics and popular shows, or even games. As I haven’t had time yet, I watched the newest James Bond movie, twice (it’s good, you should watch it, too!). A nice function is that you can pre-check the available movies by Qatar Airways on this website by selecting your Route.
One of the special features of the Qatar Airways Airbus A350 XWB is the On-Board WiFi powered by ooredoo as well as an eGSM network which can be used for SMS (calls are not allowed on board). Every passenger can surf the Internet free of charge for 15 minutes, with each own device. As if alone the possibility, that WiFi is available at the height of over 11,000 meters, isn’t already a technical miracle, it should be obvious that the speed is slow. For a quick check of emails, or posting a status message on Facebook, it is enough, but not much more. But, it’s free and why should you not use this cool function on board the Qatar Airways flight?
Another technical feature of the Airbus A350 XWB is the three cameras on board, which can be accessed via the entertainment system touchscreen. One is installed in the wing above the aircraft, another one right under the aircraft and another one with a view to the front. So if you are not sitting at the window, you can also enjoy a spectacular view, if the system works. Unfortunately, I had some misfires, and the cameras were not active during the complete flight, and also unfortunately not during landing in Adelaide.

About an hour after taking off, service began on board. At least 24 hours prior to the Flight you have the possibility to book one of these Special Meals. My ‘Vegetarian Lacto-OVO Meal (VLML)‘ consisted of rice with mushrooms and chickpeas in red sauce with a cucumber-tomato salad, a bread roll with margarine, fruit and yoghurt. Again another half an hour later coffee and tea were offered. During the whole flight, they always offered drinks, water and juices and for sure everything else on request. Right in time before landing, Lunch Time in Australia, there was another warm dish. Among the plate with the food in yellow, green and red I only had the fruit. Also, because I wasn’t feeling very well due to the seasonal turbulences above the Indian Ocean.

Although the flight was really long with 12,5 hours, I got off the plane in Adelaide, Australia, without any back pain or anything similar. The seats are comfortable, but personally, I’d prefer the headrests of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as these were somewhat softer and more comfortable for me. The Service on Board my Qatar Airways Flight from Doha to Adelaide was most of the time super nice, and it was a pleasure to fly with this Airline. If you want to refresh yourself right before landing, try their refreshing ‘perfume‘ in the bathroom, it does wonder! Below are some impressions of the flight from Adelaide to Doha.
