Ryanair Priority Boarding Flight Review – Stuttgart to Manchester

Ryanair Priority Boarding Flight Review Stuttgart Manchester

RyanAir is known and loved for being a budget airline. You do not pay much, therefore you shouldn’t expect much, but still, you can travel places for like no money. Over the past years, I had quite a few flights with RyanAir (unfortunately they don’t serve my local airport), but I always wanted to pay as less as possible. So no checked-in luggage and no further services. The maximum of extravagance was probably buying drinks on board for a few bucks (Overview of the RyanAir On Board Prices). To try out a more luxurious RyanAir experience I splurged on my latest flight with them and booked RyanAir Priority Boarding for my outbound flight. If you’re travelling with hand baggage only, you might have already experienced the hustle and bustle when it comes to stowing all the bags and cases in the overhead compartments during the boarding process. Luckily I had RyanAir Priority Boarding, as I later experienced a fight of two passengers over the placement of a jacket above a small suitcase. This was a first for me, and I really hope I’ll be never involved in something like this again… For everything else I’ve written about all the things, you should know before flying RyanAir for the first time (including baggage sizes).

So, what is RyanAir Priority Boarding, you might ask yourself? It basically allows you to board the plane first, before the big masses of people. This is crucial as only about 90 suitcases or bags fit in the overhead compartments inside the plane, the others will need to be checked-in and loaded into the regular baggage compartment (not recommended with electronics inside!). When booking a Ticket on RyanAir you have three different options, the cheapest Standard one with only hand baggage, Plus including Priority Boarding, a reserved seat and a 20kg checked-in bag, and Flexi Plus with additional Fast Track Security Check (if available at the Airport) and RyanAir on-site check-in at the Airport. Besides the cheapest ticket category, you always have Priority Boarding included, for my flight the small upgrade did cost 5,00€ per Route. In general, according to RyanAir’s Website, prices for Priority Boarding start at £5. With a price difference of almost double the price from Standard to Plus, I’d definitely recommend booking the Priority Boarding additionally if you anyway plan on travel with hand luggage only. If you want, a pre-reserved seat that you can choose on your own upon availability does only start at 4€ per person and Route, an Extra I’d recommend as well.

Up from January 15th there will be a new Bag Policy which states that every bag or suitcase has to be left at the Gate and will be loaded into the plane, you will be no longer allowed to take bigger items with you on the plane unless you pay extra for Priority Boarding + 2 cabin bags (1 case 55x40x20cm & 10kg + 1 small handbag 35x20x20cm). More on that next week (Article will go live on Jan 16th!)
