‘Shroom Burger at Shake Shack Istanbul Akasya Mall

Shroom Burger at Shake Shack Istanbul

As an avowed lover of Burgers it was just a must to at least once have a ‘Shroom Burger at Shake Shack during my Trip to Istanbul, Turkey. I first tried this vegetarian burger at Shake Shack inside Covent Garden in London and as Shake Shack has just a few stores in/close to Europe (London, Moscow, Istanbul, UAE) a visit to one of the four restaurants in Istanbul was on my list the same time I booked my trip.

Two of the Shake Shack in Istanbul are located in the northern part of the European part of Istanbul, one in the Asian, and one in the hip area of Beyoglu. After I crossed the Bosphorus River and arrived in the Asian part – my first time in Asia, yay – I took advantage of exploring the area of Acibadem and walking about 4,5 km to Akasya Mall, where the Shake Shack is located. If you are not having mobile data and navigate with the map shown on the official Shake Shack website, stop it! The Map is wrong, which costs me some extra kilometres (1 km) and minutes, on a hot summer day.. But soon I reached the architecturally outstanding Shopping Mall and found the Restaurant on the lower floor.

Luckily I was one of the first to have lunch that day so I didn’t even had to queue and could order my food immediately. I’ve chosen the Shroom Burger, normal fries (not the cheese ones) and the homemade ice-tea. All in all the food at Shake Shack Istanbul is, compared to London and both with the exchange rate to Euro, cheaper. All in all, I paid around 11 Euro for the menu. Unfortunately, I could taste and experience the “cheaper” immediately.
The food at Shake Shack is made on order it is normally really fresh and hot. What I first noticed is that the single green lettuce leaf on my Mushroom Burger already had brown marks, a sign that it wasn’t the freshest one, and the mushroom itself was quite small, too. The ‘Shroom Burger only consists of a one-half bun, the mushroom which is filled with cheese, one single lettuce and some (really, just a little bit) shack sauce and the other half of the bun. That’s it. To make matters worse the fries weren’t hot anymore and the ice tea was made out of Turkish tea. For the Turk, this might be delicious, but for me, as I expected some lemon flavoured tea, it was not as it tasted bitter.

All in all, I will probably try a ‘Shroom Burger at Shake Shack anytime again, in London (or Moscow, in Dubai/Doha, or in the USA), but not in Istanbul anymore. Have you ever had a Burger at Shake Shack in Istanbul? What was your experience?
