The second most beautiful city in the Czech Republic is Český Krumlov, hidden in the south-western part of the South Bohemian Region. This town with less than 15,000 inhabitants offers just a great and uniquely impressive downtown and is, therefore, an official UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. The Český Krumlov Castle, overlooking most parts of the small town, was built in the 13th century. Measured by its size it’s just unusually large in comparison to the rest of the city.

One of the highlights of the Castle is the Český Krumlov Baroque Theatre that I’d just love to see with my own eyes. It was built from 1680 to 1682 and is one of the world’s most completely preserved Baroque theatres. Nowadays there are still the original stage and stage technology, auditorium, coulisses and other details that they used back them. Unfortunately, the Theatre is only open for three times a year, of which two Operas are for the public.

During my visit to Český Krumlov, almost at midnight, it seemed that the Town was already sleeping and a straying dog was probably in the silent search for some food. Solely the Castle area and some streets were illuminated, creating a very special atmosphere. As I just visited the Town for such a short time I’ll definitely come back one day and pay the Castle a long visit as well as the whole Historic Centre of Český Krumlov.
