Cala D’Or is a village on the eastern coast of the Balearic Island of Majorca. Cala D’Or means golden Cove and ‘golden’ is definitely a good description for the beautiful bays in this area. More than 60km from Palma the area is popular with tourists, but not the ‘typical Majorca Tourists‘. At the end of September, everything seemed very civilized, just a bunch of people enjoying life, the sun, and the crystal clear water. I started my exploration walk in Cala Ferrera, at my Hotel, Robinson Club Cala Serena. Cala Ferrera is one of the three principal areas of this village, the town center of Cala d’Or, Cala Egos, and Cala Ferrera. As I love to explore by foot I walked all the way, even though a bike would have been faster. For navigation, I use the offline mode of Google Maps on my Android Smartphone (you can pre-download them to save on roaming/mobile data).

Passing by so many white cubic-style Houses I definitely appreciated the planning process of this Village in the early 1930s. The Ibizan Architect Josep Costa Ferrer designed and planned the Village and he clearly got Inspiration from the Ibiza Style with white paintings and more. Soon, after one kilometer, I reached the City Center of Cala d’Or. Individual Shops, Restaurants, and mainly Shops focused on Tourists and fashion. By accident, I found Playa Cala Gran, what a lucky coincidence – this place is so beautiful! A cove with a sandy beach and clear water. Some wind made everything feel less hot and the water was refreshing. After a walk to the Yacht Club Cala d’Or with again many Restaurants along, I walked back to the final beach of the Day, Cala Ferrera. With my Hotel in the background, this was another very nice beach, super sandy but more crowded than the previous one.
