Visiting Colosseum in Rome in Winter Season

Colosseum Rome Winter Season JoyDellaVita

It’s a must when visiting Rome for more than 24 hours, seeing the famous Colosseum in Rome. Built almost 2000 Years ago the Colosseum in Rome is still the largest amphitheatre ever built. Or what’s left after earthquakes, stone-robbers and just forces of nature. Constructed of concrete and sand the building progress started AD 72 and was finished 8 years later. The Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles with estimated up to 80,000 spectators.
Nowadays it feels like there are still several thousands of visitors in the Colosseum, as it is one of the most visited Attractions in Rome. There are no longer plays or activities, but visitors can rent a Digital Guide to learn more about the Theatre. Such as the name is believed to be derived from a colossal statue of Nero nearby.

During my visit to Colosseum in Rome in Winter Season, February, there weren’t big crowds what made the visit enjoyable. You didn’t have to wait too long to sneak to the first row of the platforms with a view and overall you never had to queue for anything. What was a bit unfortunate were ongoing construction works, what resulted in blocked roads and areas. Therefore I bet I haven’t seen anything, as those made it harder to find every stairway.
