Biennale di Architettura di Pisa 2025: “Nature” Shapes a New Urban Vision

10.October16.November

Pisa is set to become a vibrant urban laboratory with the highly anticipated VI edition of the Biennale di Architettura di Pisa, taking place from 10th October to 16th November 2025. Promoted and organised by Associazione LP – Laboratorio Permanente per la Città, this significant event aims to foster a fresh perspective on urban development, engaging professionals, citizens, institutions, and businesses alike.

With the compelling theme “Nature,” the Biennale will explore architecture’s vital role in achieving balance within complex ecosystems and addressing the environmental and social impacts of climate change. It positions humanity as part of nature, not its dominator, seeking new development models and adaptation strategies to enhance living environments. The event will delve into how architecture can help cities become more resilient and responsive to contemporary climatic challenges, always prioritising collective well-being and a sustainable urban quality of life.

What to Expect at Biennale di Architettura di Pisa 2025

Expanding significantly from previous editions, the 2025 Biennale will feature eight exhibition pavilions (up from five in 2023) spread across Pisa’s historic city centre, transforming it into an open-air laboratory. A diffused exhibition path along the Arno River will connect various historic venues, including the Arsenali Repubblicani, Torre Guelfa, and Museo delle antiche Navi, showcasing projects from national and international architects.

The comprehensive programme includes a rich array of thematic exhibitions, conferences, workshops, cinematic events, and public meetings, designed to engage a broad audience. Notably, there will be two special exhibitions dedicated to Pritzker Prize winners Álvaro Siza and RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The Biennale also introduces an international call for projects, six study sections focusing on areas like “Ecological Systems” and “Connections between City and Nature,” and three prestigious awards: the Pisa City Award for Urban Quality, the Pisa Biennale Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Growing Impact and Engagement

Following a successful 2023 edition that welcomed approximately 5,000 visitors, the 2025 Biennale anticipates attracting over 15,000 attendees, solidifying its position as a major national and international event in the architectural landscape. This edition also sees the creation of a dedicated architectural book fund and an enhanced communication strategy, including a new multilingual website and partnerships with leading architectural media. The Biennale’s strong ties with the City of Pisa underscore its commitment to local urban improvement, actively promoting the ‘Charter of Possible Actions’ to guide future development.
