24.June• 22:0023:30

On Tuesday, 24th June 2025, Florence will burst into life to celebrate its patron saint, St. John the Baptist, with a vibrant day of folklore and festivities culminating in a spectacular fireworks display. This beloved local holiday, known as I Fuochi di San Giovanni, sees the city transform with events steeped in centuries of tradition.

The day’s excitement includes flag-wavers, a historic parade, and thrilling boat races along the Arno River. A major highlight is the grand finale of the Calcio Storico Fiorentino, a lively and historic form of medieval football played in Piazza Santa Croce, offering a unique glimpse into Florence’s past.

As evening descends, the city prepares for the renowned Fuochi d’Artificio (fireworks). Kicking off around 10:00 PM, these dazzling displays are best viewed from Ponte Santa Trinita, providing an incredible panorama with Ponte Vecchio silhouetted against the colourful bursts. St. John the Baptist became Florence’s patron saint after the city’s conversion to Christianity, with celebrations dating back to the 13th century, cementing the Baptistery of San Giovanni and Piazza del Duomo as central hubs for the city’s religious and political life.
