Christmas is a magical season. Everything gets cosy, all the lights and the joy of the ever getting closer Christmas Eve. Sternenstadt St. Gallen turns the city centre into various illuminated paths, with flickering stars haning from the houses and buildings. About 700 stars are installed, each are 2 metres big and are powered with LED lights. St. Gallen is located in northeastern Switzerland, close to Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein. Saint Gall has a long and interesting history, but more on that in other Articles.
On November 24th it was that time again when all the lights were illuminated for the first time of the season. As part of a ‘Star Vernissage’ turning them on was celebrated big. Already hundreds of people came together in the City Centre, to enjoy the Start of the Christmas season. On the 24th the booths of the annual Christmas Market opened for the first time as well.
The Stars were first installed in 2010 and have each 14 rays, symbolising the 14 parts of the City St. Gallen. There are about 700 Stars hanging from buildings across streets or are directly mounted to houses. Up from now, they are turned on every day when it gets dark, but they aren’t just shining on full volume. They are flickering according to a choreography created especially for St. Gallen Sternenstadt.
Enjoy the following Pictures I took on the first eve of the Christmas Season in Sternenstadt St. Gallen, before the first illumination and after. The lights are now installed until the beginning of January 2017 and you can enjoy them every day.
