A true highlight for both residents and tourists: the Christmas Tree at Galeries Lafayette! On November 8th it was finally that time of the year again, Galeries Lafayette in Paris unveiled their Christmas tree. It’s usually no typical tree, but a rather modern one. In the middle of the big and world-famous department store on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris, you can find the metre-high tree. Of course, also the outside of the several Galeries Lafayette buildings are exquisitely decorated, such as the festive window displays. Paris is anyways a shoppers paradise, but the Galeries should be on your list of places to visit year-round. However especially in the Christmas season. To enjoy the big Christmas Tree at Galeries Lafayette 2017 I went up to the third level. For your orientation in the massive department store, I stood near the small but busy Starbucks – just follow the signs or ask your way around to find the Starbucks. On a Sunday afternoon, the store was so so busy, it was buzzing. If you’re watching the Tree you should usually wait a bit until the spectacle begins. Dozens of balloons start dancing from the ceiling and with festive music, in the background, you simply forget the hustle and bustle of all the shoppers around you, at least for a few seconds. If you ever get the chance to travel to Paris in the weeks before Christmas, make sure to at least stop by the department store, for a few minutes, to see the stunning Christmas Tree at Galeries Lafayette and the beautiful decorations yourself. A video or pictures are fine, but witnessing the feeling firsthand is for sure a different experience and spectacle! The design of the decorations changes every ear, so the Tree at Galeries Lafayette is definitely a sight worth an annual visit!
