I have never before experienced something like First Class Lounge at Lindner Hotel City Plaza Cologne ever before. As a frequent flyer with StarAlliance I am able to enjoy nice amenities, like for example Lounge Access to Lufthansa Lounges. Prior to a flight I can enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks, charge batteries, surf the web and relax before a flight. Lindner Hotels has something similar in their City Plaza Hotel in Cologne, Germany. You either have to stay at a “First Class” Category Room, have spent a certain amount of nights at any category room, or buy yourself the entrance to their Lounge. The First Class Lindner Lounge is located on the fifth floor of their building and is accessible just like a regular hotel room by using your hotel room key card. It actually felt a bit strange, but in an exciting way, to enter this another hotel room, like entering a secret club behind a regular door. Once you’re stepping into this room you find a working space to your left and a hallway with magazines to your front. To the left side, there is a living room kinda room with a bookshelf, lounge chairs and a working table with a TV. This is actually where I set up my Office for the day with my laptop and notebook. Even though the TV was on silent mode, there are several TV’s in the Lounge, and it shouldn’t distract people from relaxing. But, at that moment in the late afternoon, I was the only person in the Lindner First Class Lounge at City Plaza Hotel, so it was more than okay to listen to the news with the audio on level 2. The Lounge also offers more seating inside near the other TV’s, but also a spacious outdoor terrace with a view of the Top of Colognes Dome in near far. The interior design of the lounge is definitely on point, held in warm nuances ranging from dark red to brown and green, giving you a homely feeling, just about like at home.
Of course, what would a proper Lounge be without refreshments? The Lindner First Class Lounge is accessible all day, offering snacks and cold beverages, as well as everything the coffee machine can do, 24/7. In the morning there is a small breakfast buffet awaiting you, I haven’t tried it as I enjoyed breakfast at their restaurant on ground level, and in the evening starting at 6 pm a buffet dinner including alcoholic drinks. And, everything is complimentary! During the late afternoon, I first had several Coke’s (they have 0,2l bottles), followed by a Soup, a plate with salad and pasta, and a typical local dish for dessert (Dampfnudel with vanilla sauce) accompanied by a Cappuccino. Yes, I definitely indulged whilst working instead of just chilling in my hotel room.
If you are not staying at a “First Class” Room, no worries, you can pay a fee of 35€ per Person to enjoy access to the First Class Lounge, and all its complimentary indulgences. I’d definitely recommend the Lounge!
