Travel Diary: 2 hours in Offenburg, Southern Germany
Offenburg in southern Germany surprised me this past weekend – what a beautiful city! Just 20 km east of Straßbourg in France you should visit Offenburg, the administrative capital of the Ortenaukreis. From the Train Station, that is quite big for this 58.000 inhabitant City; you can walk to the city centre within a few minutes. In the historical centre of Offenburg, you can find one Shop next to Restaurants, Cafés and more Shops, all in beautiful and authentic (old) buildings. Colourful Facades, next to modern buildings, it’s amusing to stroll around Offenburg. On Saturday there is a market where you can find anything from Fruit and Vegetables to handmade things to Syrian specialities. To enjoy beautiful views, I went to have Lunch at a Rooftop Restaurant.
Even though I went to Offenburg for less than 2 hours, on my way from Baden-Baden in northern Baden-Württemberg down to Lake Constance in the south, I got hooked on the City. From the Train Windows, you were able to enjoy the beautiful landscape sceneries, and I’ll be back to discover more of Offenburg (soon).
By the way, at the Train Station, there are dozens of rental bikes, and a few lockers have special rates (2,50€ for up to 2 hours), how convenient!
