Why you should visit the marvellous Pantheon in Rome

visit Pantheon Rome

The Pantheon is one of the, admittedly, many sights and world wonders you have to visit on a visit to Rome. Especially if it’s your first one. First, of many… Find here below an inspiration and a few reasons why you should visit the stunning Pantheon in Rome:

History and Architecture

The Pantheon was built in 27 BC as a temple to all the gods of the Roman religion. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries, but the current structure dates back to the 2nd century AD. The building is circular in shape, with a massive dome that measures 43 meters in diameter. The dome is made of concrete and is still the largest unsupported dome in the world. The interior of the Pantheon is equally impressive, with intricate marble floors, columns, and statues.

Religious Significance

The Pantheon is an important religious site for Catholics, as it was converted into a church in the 7th century AD. Today, it is known as the Basilica of Santa Maria ad Martyres, and it is still used for religious services. The tombs of several important figures, including the artist Raphael and two Italian kings, are also located inside the Pantheon.
