A visit to Adelaide Central Market

Adelaide Central Market JoyDellaVita

A Market has always been a place where Life took place. People met, chatted about current happenings, and not to forget about the Food and other Products you can get on Markets. A meeting point exactly like this is Adelaide Central Market near Victoria Square. It’s serving all the necessities people need, and super modern even with a parking area in the upper floors of the building. And how could it be any different, Adelaide Central market is located in the heart of the City, close to Vicotria Square.

Every day, 80 merchants are selling their goods. Not only local fruits but also home-made pastries and much more. In between the shops, there are some cafes and restaurants that invite you to immediately enjoy and linger. The market is open daily from 7 or 9 am, until 5:30 pm and on Fridays even until 9 pm.
The Central Market in Adelaide is one of the largest and most extensive markets of its kind in whole Australia. It was opened for the first time in 1869, as a simple market. With almost 150 years of tradition, Adelaide Central Market is the most visited tourist attraction in South Australia, with more than 8 million visitors a year.

Mushrooms, fish, fresh meat, cakes and pastries, freshly squeezed juices and nuts line up in the market hall. An up-to-date overview of the dealers is available on the website of the market, link below. Very practical, if you are travelling by car to Adelaide Central Market, directly above the market hall is a multi-storey car park for over 1000 vehicles. But also on foot or by public transport (bus and tram) you can reach Adelaide Central Market near Victoria Square very well. Bus stops are right in front of the entrance, the tram station is just a few meters directly at Victoria Square / Town Square. From my Hotel, Mayfair Hotel, it was few minute walk that I really enjoyed.

Directly thereafter is the Chinatown Market of Adelaide, with other merchants and some restaurants. In the Asian restaurants, you can dine cheaply or drink bubble tea, although the trend is already over again (I guess…).
