Amelia Restaurant in San Sebastian was just recently rewarded with a Michelin Star, a highly prestigious honour in the culinary world. Amelia isn’t a regular restaurant with a menu of various dishes to choose from, from starters to mains and desserts, no, Amelia solely offers tasting menus. By this, they want to “offer a unique experience, creating perfect harmony between seasonal products and technique in the kitchen, expressing itself to its maximum.” Sounds great, right? For a special occasion, you should definitely add eating at a Michelin Restaurant to your To Do list!
Restaurant Amelia is located in the beautiful Romantica district of San Sebastián, just nearby the Cathedral del Buen Pastor. They solely use fresh products from small producers, to provide the guests with top-quality products which results in top-quality dishes and tastes. Usually, the 11-course tasting menu is created for meat-eaters, but luckily they planned a smaller 8-course menu just for me. Some of my portions were bigger than the portions of the other guests, sometimes I had nothing for several courses, which was totally fine as I simply could nibble on their super delicious bread. And honestly, even if I’d eat meat, I probably wouldn’t have eaten everything Chef Paulo Airaudo created. Sweetbread, or variations of pigeons including mashed pigeon stomach.
The price for a “Seasonal menu” is 118 € (including 10% IVA) and you’re definitely getting something for your money at Amelia! On average, we had three courses per hour, so serving 11 courses took a while, and many wine bottles. Overall Amelia recommends spending at least 90 minutes, so 1,5 hours, at their restaurant.
My vegetarian Tasting Menu at Amelia in Donostia San Sebastian
- Pumpkin Tartare on a bed of cream cheese
- Salad with flowers
- Our bread (crunchy bread with olive oil paste, homemade butter and something like mashed liver paste)
- Parsley risotto
- Ravioli with spinach and ricotta in bourbon essence
- The cheese (Sheep cheese with sweet potato sauce) (skipped completely)
- Apple, fennel & dill
- Banana, maple syrup, nuts and white chocolate & Petit-four to share on the table (skipped everything)
Please be aware that due to freshness and seasonality, amount of courses are subject to change without prior notice.
My evening was amazing, I had a blast in great company but personally didn’t enjoy most of my vegetarian options at Amelia Restaurant. The bread and the parsley risotto were my absolute favourites!
