What are the current RyanAir hand luggage restrictions and allowances? Travelling with RyanAir can be a hustle, or a cheap and simple pleasure. If you follow all their rules, it can already become quite a bit more hassle-free. But before heading out for an adventure, may it be a short weekend getaway or a holiday, there are always so many things one has to think about. What to pack, oh, what’s the weather on-site at the destination like, how to get to the airport, how from the airport, do I need to pre-book this or that, what do I definitely need to bring, do I also bring my camera or just rely on my phone, who waters and cares for my plant while I’m gone, did I already pre-write the auto-responder at my work mail, do I need another trip to the pharmacy to buy some remedies and medications, do I still have travel hand sanitizers, and do I need to wear a mask for the flight or in public transport at my destination? Yes, there is so much to possibly think about before a trip. Here one less thing for you to worry about, the current RyanAir hand luggage allowances, and general bag policy.

Read here in short: the RyanAir hand luggage restrictions

When booking your RyanAir flight(s), after selecting your desired flight, you have to choose between your type of ticket. And how much, or how less, baggage you will bring with you on the flight. The famous “Ryanair jacket” is still a nice method to bring a lot on the flight, read more about it here, but this cant be done in summer… When booking a RyanAir flight, you currently have these types of hand luggage allowances.

Value – cheapest fare

1 Small Bag only – must fit under the seat in front, with max dimensions of 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.

Regular – 24,50 € more per flight/person

Includes a 20kg Check-in Bag (at the check-in desk, dimensions not more than 81cms (height), 119cms (width) and 119cms (depth)) as well as 1 small Bag for under the seat in front of you (max dimensions 40cm x 20cm x 25cm), also includes a free on-site check-in at the airport up to 40 minutes before the flight. Also includes a reserved seat of choice.
Flexi Plus – 82,75 € more per flight / person

What this RyanAir hand luggage allowance means for you

To summarize, the cheapest fare always only includes one tiny bag of the max dimensions of 40 x 20 x 25 cm (a Fjallraven Kanken backpack, as pictured above).

If you want to bring a regular sized hand-luggage wheelie suitcase on board, you will have to choose either the Regular or Flexi Plus fare. Or the “Plus” fare and drop you bag / suitcase off at the airport as checked-in luggage.

However, it may definitely make sense to think about the prices in comparision. For an additional 25 bucks you get to bring your hand-luggage bag or suitcase on board, but for 39 bucks you get to check-in a bigger bag with no “max 10 100 ml bottles” liquids limitations. Definitely something to consider, especially if you want to go shopping at your holiday destination and dont want to be limited by that.

changes to the RyanAir hand luggage in the past

Back in 2018, RyanAir already launched their “new Bag Policy”. This already changed a bit, but customers have still been able to bring 2 free carry-on bags on board. Oh, the good old times for RyanAir hand luggage allowances …
