Alpine Garden Zurich Airport Capsule Hotel – couple Review

Advertising | Press Invitation *

From the beginning of March, you can stay in a capsule at Zurich Airport! Alpine Garden Zurich is the largest capsule Hotel in Switzerland! How it is to stay in a capsule hotel, is what we have tested at the end of March 2022 for you! Our experience, how it was to travel together as a couple, with each of you still sleeping in their own capsule. What is it like in general, what amenities are there, and, especially important for such an airport hotel: how quickly can you get to the airport for departure? The Alpine Garden is already the third Capsule Hotel in Switzerland, after Basel and Bern. Other so-called capsule hotels will follow, such as in the city of Zurich or even in Barcelona. Wow, such an innovative accommodation concept, because do you really need more for an overnight stay? It is absolutely sustainable since only an absolute fraction of space is needed for the individual boxes, if you compare it to hotel rooms. And yet you have more privacy than in a classic hostel. Read on for our experience of staying in a capsule hotel as a travelling couple, and some frequently asked questions answered for you as well. Those can be found here in a separate blog post to keep this here a bit shorter 😉

What is it like to stay in a Box in a Capsule Hotel? – my Review

It is definitely something I have wished for so many times. Just within minutes and a few metres walk from arrivals, you will lie flat in your very own bed. Reaching for some quiet time and hopefully some well-deserved rest. May you be a business traveller, or for enjoyment only, having a bed to sleep and rest so close to an Airport is pure bliss. Luckily, Zurich Airport now has this feature: an airport hotel that can be reached without having to leave the terminal. And, even more innovative, a capsule hotel. Each guest will have their own little 2 square meters big capsule box, everything else is shared. The space in front of the capsule, the chilling and lounging area, the spacious bathrooms.

At the airport, it’s intended for short-term stays either during the day or the night. However, I can definitely imagine staying at one in a city centre for longer. It kind of forces you to be minimalist, as you can only keep the most important and needed things close by. I kept my small Osprey backpack inside the capsule with me, but usually Bags should be stored outside the box, or in a luggage room overlooked by the staff.
And anyway all you need is sleep, and this is what you will get at a capsule hotel. If you find yourself having trouble falling asleep, you can obtain earplugs on site from the staff. With a convenient location, stunning design and clean public and private areas, J can certainly recommend Alpine Garden Capsule Hotel at Zurich Airport!

What is it like to stay in individual capsules as a couple?

If you travel alone and have such an overnight box for yourself, of course, everything is not a problem at all. As a woman, you can even book into female-only rooms. But, what about if you travel together as a couple? After all, everyone has their own capsule box; there are no double-sized boxes for families or couples at the Alpine Garden in Zurich at the airport.
In fact, it’s kinda weird to stay together as a couple at the capsule hotel. You are together at any time, maybe even coming back from a long trip together, and then, everyone closes the door of his capsule box. On the other hand, everyone really has their peace and quiet to sleep alone. Thanks to modern technologies, you can wish a “good night” and “good morning” via smartphone and otherwise keep in touch in between. “Should we get up now?”, “Do you have the snacks with you or can’t I find mine?” or “Will you run with me to the Migros in the airport, it’s open until 11 p.m. and I need something else?”. You can knock on each other’s capsules, of course, and, if you don’t have any problems sleeping alone, you’ll have a pleasant night.
