The best table in a Restaurant is the one by the water. At Restaurant Giorgos Tavern in Plaka, Crete, you will find many of them right by or just right above the water. In this small village near Elounda in the north-east of the Greek Island, everything feels so relaxed and nice. Sometimes you hear other tourists talking, but the main noise is the constant sound of the waves. On the sea rocks of Plaka, viewing Spinalonga, the Taverna offers everything the water has to offer, as well as traditional Greek Cuisine.
A long table with a full view of Spinalonga Island was perfect for a smaller group, the Land Rover Experience Greece Group. This Restaurant, Giovanni’s Giorgos Tavern in Plaka, is the official lunch stop during the second Route. After driving for hours, offroad, to the Lasithi Plateau and back down again, it felt so nice to sit by the water and enjoy delicious food. As a vegetarian I was quite unsure at first, will there be enough vegetarian options? Oh, there were enough dishes for vegetarians! Fries, fried zucchini, Tzatziki and several dips, grilled vegetables, stuffed cabbage leaves and Dakos. To finish this already glorious meal with greek coffee, we received their famous orange cake with fresh fruit. Friendly service, delicious food and a perfect location, I can highly recommend Taverna Griorgos (Giovanni’s) in the small town Plaka in eastern Crete.
