Kapetaniana is a small village in the south of Crete, but not just a regular village. Thalori Traditional Village offers a unique accommodation experience, as the Guesthouses are spread around the village, in converted old houses. Situated on a stone ridge of Asterousia mountain range guests can enjoy ‘original Cretan hospitality’ and beautiful nature. The Restaurant and also the visit to the village is possible for everyone, and I highly recommend to do so. As the official Lunch Stop of Land Rover Experience Greece Tour 3, I was positively excited once we rolled with our convertible cars to the parking spot, and I discovered the stunning view. The Libyan Sea and the Messara Plain right in front, while later sitting on and in between mountains in a historic village.
As I often discovered in the countryside of Crete, the whole atmosphere was so relaxed and silent. The only noises were from trees and occasional meows from cats. At the end of April, there weren’t many other tourists around, we even saw more sheep than humans. Marvelous!
Just like the other Lunches, we had during the first two Offroad Adventure Tours in Crete, big plates were served in the middle of the table. Dakos, Greek Salad, filled leaves, chips, fried zucchini and aubergines, meatballs and delicious bread and gorgeous olive oil. A typical Lunch in Greece. But what would a proper Greek Lunch be without a refreshing and energising Frappé? Exactly, so I ordered one and enjoyed it while admiring the views and the close-but-quite-far Libyan Sea.
Before hitting the roads again, we went on a stroll around Thalori Village, which consists of 20 traditional houses, and a church Εκκλησία Παναγία. Overall, what a lovely village with great gastronomy and even better location. Check out their website, linked below, for interior pictures of the Houses.
