Is Fast Food always unhealthy? absolutely not! A new kind of fast food chain is taking over (northern) Italy and I absolutely love it. Bigoi. In various locations and cities across the northern part of Italy, they are selling Pasta. Quick and easy. Their only type of Pasta is Bigoli, or Pici in the Tuscan area, and is like a thick spaghetti usually made with buckwheat flour or whole wheat flour. The concept of Bigoi is very simple. You enter a store/restaurant, order the type of sauce you want, pay, you get a number and within minutes to seconds, your order is ready. Served with recyclable cups and cutlery you can either enjoy your Bigoi Bigoli Pasta on the go, or inside their store.

The Bigoi in Padua has been quite busy, with what it seemed both locals and tourists. As the Pasta is made fresh in the restaurant, cooked live and the sauces cooked inside the one room as well, temperatures were high, so much higher than outside on a fairly warm early Italian summer day. Due to the masses of people, and orders, it took some minutes until I got my palm-sized portion of fresh Bigoli Pasta with Pesto Genovese sauce. I asked for some extra parmesan cheese, sprinkled some chilli flakes on top and left the store as soon as I could. Luckily there is a bridge just nearby, with a balustrade in the perfect height to eat. I couldn’t’ wait to finally dig in my quick Italian lunch. This is absolutely the kind of fast food I want when exploring a city. Nourishing and delicious without costing too much money, as well as not using too much time. You don’t have to sit in a restaurant and order something, just grab your cup with Pasta and go. Love it! My Bigoli Pasta Genovese by Bigoi was really tasty and delicious and I can absolutely recommend Bigoi Padua / Padova. However, the only thing that bothered me is that the sauce is only on top of the noodles until you’re able to stir everything you have to eat at least 1/3 of the portion, to finally mix all the noodles with the sauce. But that’s really the only thing I had to fuss about. I’ll definitely visit Bigoi again.
