Lunch at Karren Panorama Restaurant in Dornbirn / Vorarlberg

You are supposed to enjoy the most stunning views from Karren Panorama Restaurant in Dornbirn, located in the Vorarlberg of Austria. Dornbirn is not that close to Lake Constance, still, you can enjoy neverending views from mountain Karren on Lake Constance, other parts of Vorarlberg, Switzerland and Bavaria in Germany. Well, when I had planned my Trip to Karren in Dornbirn, the weather looked good at first but changed rapidly soon. Once I arrived at Karren cable railway in Gütlestraße 6 in Dornbirn we had the badest weather conditions you can imagine. The Karren Panorama Restaurant offers 150 seats in the glass part of the restaurant, 40 and 35 in more cosy rooms and 200 on the open-air terrace. As it was rainy and windy, for sure I sat inside in the Glass Restaurant, as they call it.

When I’m in Austria and especially in Vorarlberg, for sure I had my favourite dish Käsespätzle. In the past, I’ve also shared the recipe for you (the Vorarlberg version is not too different from the German one, but don’t tell that anyone from Austria) ;). As a starter I had a small mixed salad with was very good, I loved the dressing. Then the Käsespätzle arrived in a pan with some fried onions. I was so excited about them, but duh, they haven’t tasted good to me at all. Somehow they were soggy and there was so much liquid in the bottom of this pan. Even more liquid than delicious cheese that glues everything together with endless strings if you pull something away (which is how it should be IMO). What a disappointment, and when clearing the table they didn’t even ask why I haven’t even eaten half of my dish. Maybe all the staff had a bad day, as most of them were far from being attentive, warm and welcoming. I even had to literally shout at them, to order something, and even mentioning it twice as I was not sure if they got it the first time. Which was almost as depressing as the super bad weather. To not end this lunch in a bad way, I had their Ice-cream meringue for dessert. Vanilla ice-cream, gooey meringue, whipped cream and seasonal fruits, how was this good!

Overall, I can totally recommend the location on 976 meters above sea-level, whilst the Restaurant in Dornbirn itself wouldn’t be something to extra take a cable car for. Maybe in the future, I’ll test/enjoy their weekend breakfast buffet, when the weather is sunnier and overall better.
