Restaurant Scheepskameel Amsterdam can be found in a rather hidden area, therefore it is pleasantly quiet. But the location-search will be so worth it! Right next to the water you can enjoy your Dinner either in- or outside, starting with Appetisers and a three-course menu that changes on a regular basis. Usually, Scheepskameel offers four raw dishes, four vegetable dishes, five fish/meat dishes, five kinds of cheese, one dessert as well as three cakes. I had their vegetarian menu and damn, I’m still dreaming of my main course, it was absolutely delicious.
Pieter Smits, who once worked at Hotel de Goudfazant, opened his own Restaurant almost a decade ago, Rijsel. As I’ve read it is certainly one of the best Restaurants in Amsterdam, therefore it is always crowded and booked. Now, finally, in late May 2016, the owner opened a second Restaurant, Scheepskameel at Kattenburgerstraat in Amsterdam. The expectations are high and have been utterly exceeded during my visit. The Personnel was very friendly and just in case I needed something, it felt like someone was always around to take care. The Interior inside Scheepskameel Amsterdam is sparse but cosy, moreover, the Amsterdam sunset light looks and feels just magical inside.
My evening at Scheepskameel Amsterdam started with a glass of chilled Rosé Wine outside, before moving on to the Table. There was already bread with butter waiting, and I loved the quality and taste of both. My vegetarian Menu started with Roasted Leek, Hazelnuts, Horse Radish and Green Apple. The main dish was my favourite, not only at Restaurant Scheepskameel Amsterdam, and I honestly don’t want to exaggerate, but it was one of the best dishes I have ever had: Fried artichokes with hollandaise sauce, beneath potato pancakes and peas / green beans. Healthy, hearty, so simple and in this combination really so delicious. I could have unquestionably eaten another or even 2 more portions… however, a cheese platter and red fruit with vanilla ice-cream (so yummy!) followed. Even though 3-4 courses sounds like a lot, every dish at Sheepskameel felt
