Enjoy Summer and coffee like the Greeks do, with a Greek frappé. A country that knows how to handle summer well, will develop appropriate ways to cope with the heat and get their caffeine intake stabilised. A hot coffee in summer by the beach? Well, one can definitely imagine something more refreshing… but “iced coffee” like the americans enjoy their drinks? Well, this is not super well-known everywhere. As, let’s be honest, “iced coffee” or “cold coffee” sounds just like old coffee – and who would order something like this at a (beach) bar or cafe?! To enjoy your summer in Greece authentically, order a greek Frappé. If best in the original version with Nescafe Instant coffee powder!
Ingredients for authentic Greek Frappé
- 2 teaspoons instant coffee
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar or to taste
- 200 ml cold water
- some Ice cubes
- 2 tablespoons milk (optional)
Directions for Greek Frappé with instant coffee
First, place the tablespoons of instant coffee powder, and sugar in a mixer or blender. First, add only 2 tablespoons of water to the dry ingredients, and blend and mix well for about 15 to 30 seconds. You want a foamy light-brown cream. Now add the remaining cold water and stir it, or pulse-mix it for only two seconds, until everything is well combined.
Place a few ice cubes in a glass and add the frappe mix on top. Stir once with a reusable straw and enjoy your cold Greek coffee drink immediately, or while still cold.
If it’s too strong for you, you can also add a sip or two or your preferred milk or milk alternative, best would be before the final pulse-mix of all the ingredients (after the initial foam-inducing process).
What a refreshing sip in summer this Greek Frappé is! Enjoy!
