In a City as busy as Rome you have to have a small vehicle to get around. Vespa Scooters are perfect if you are alone and have not too much to carry around, but when it comes to small Cars, I’ve also seen many in Rome. The streets of Rome are actually quite wide, but with like no existing traffic system, except stoplights, you have to choose a smart way of transportation. And as busy as the street are, the parking spaces are as tight as to barely existing. If you can park a Car in the same spot you could park two to three scooters. Hence on two wheels you have the luck to find parking spaces much more easy. The preferred types besides Scooters of all kinds were small cars such as smart fortwo, rarely a Fiat 500 or Fiat Panda, but also some vintage cars such as a Mini or the lightweight car Aixam.
The Aixam is a very special vehicle, as you’re allowed to drive them up from the age of 15 with a scooter license as they have a speed limit of 45 km/h, officially. Also, they consume just about 3 Litres per 100 km.
My highlight of all the small Cars of Rome was the all-electric Fiat 500 that you can rent for Sightseeing Tours in Rome.
