Did you know that there is a connection between Albert Einstein and the southern German city of Ulm? The world’s best-known modern scientist and one of the most important theoretical physicists in the history of science, but what brings him in connection with the two-country city of Ulm? He taught in Princeton in the USA, where he also died in 1955. But, it is quite simple: Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, on March 14, 1879. He is therefore actually the best-known citizen of Ulm.
Both of his parents also came from Württemberg. His mother, Pauline Einstein (maiden name Koch), was born in Cannstatt near Stuttgart (nowadays Stuttgart Bad Cannstatt), his father Hermann Einstein originates from the city of Buchau in Upper Swabia (now Bad Buchau). Incidentally, the oldest proven ancestor of Albert Einstein (dating back to the 17th century) originates from the southern German Lake Constance area, a horse and cloth dealer named Baruch Moses Ainstein. Albert Einstein’s parents’ house was in Ulm at Bahnhofstrasse B135, where he was born.

Today, near the Ulm train station, a memorial commemorates Albert Einstein, at “the other end of the (old) city” there is also an Einstein fountain. In memory of the most famous Ulm man, Albert Einstein.
