Where to buy stamps in Italy, and how to send a letter or postcard in Italy

As mentioned above, you don’t need to visit an official post office, to buy a stamp, and to send your letter or postcard from Italy. There is a more convenient way to do so! Luckily, stamps are sold in every well-equipped tabaccheria, and not only stamps for Italy only, but apparently in touristy areas, also international stamps. Those stores also sell tickets for local buses, besides many other things. So, all you have to do is buy a postcard from somewhere you like, fill everything out according to the lines on the card, write the country you want to ship this to in big letters (to make sure everyone can read it) in either English or Italian language, go to a tabaccheria, a kiosk, mention you want to send this to country xy and you will get the stamp! If this is not a well-equipped tabaccherie, with enough stamps, you might still need to visit an official Poste Italiane Office. So far, so good. Once the stamp is on your postcard you can simply drop it off in one of those bright red mailboxes. You will find them everywhere if you’re looking for them. But, pay attention to what’s written on them! Usually, they have one slit for local or national letters, and one for all the other ones. Make sure to drop your postcard off in the right slit, and wish your holiday greetings farewell.

  1. […] Not far from the world-famous pizzeria “L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele”, 1947 Pizza Fritta Naples is located across the street. From the train station as well as from the harbour, the snack bar can be reached in a short walk through the centre of Naples. Naples has a penchant for deep-frying, so it’s not uncommon to find small restaurants that only serve dishes baked in fat. This is also the case with 1947 Pizza Fritta in Naples. Besides aranchini, there are fried vegetables, fish and other snacks. At the end, there is a photo of the menu with prices. But to try the classic par excellence, again, I naturally chose a Pizza Fritta when in Naples. It’s a similar pretty remembrance to a great holiday, enjoying delicious food, as it is to send a postcard from Italy. […]

  2. […] What better way to celebrate breakfast in Italy than the way the locals like to do it? With a cappuccino and a sweet pastry, of course. I went for a cornetto or cornetti, a croissant filled with vanilla crema pasticcera. If you’ve never tried such a croissant, do, it’s simply mesmerizingly delicious! Accompanied by a fresh cappuccino with yummy silky milk and milk foam, and a coffee of more than excellent quality. This Italian breakfast in Florence at Ditta Artigianale is a must when visiting the Renaissance city on the Arno in Tuscany. But be aware, due to the popularity of the place I had to wait quite a bit on my order. But it was worth it, as I got to enjoy my late breakfast while people watching. In one of the smaller, more residential than touristy, streets of Florence. Everything felt good. If you are interested in sending home some greetings, you might be interested in my blogpost guide about postcard prices in Italy. […]
