View of Paris from Sacre Coeur and Montmartre

Paris from above, in the evening at sunset, from the Sacre Coeur platform and Montmartre. A group of people are playing music and punctuating the moment with the perfect mood. Perhaps the most beautiful city in the world, simply perfect.

From Montmartre, and the Sacre Coer, you have a very very good view of the Paris skyline with the second highest point of Paris. You can make out the Opera, and besides the sea of houses, you also notice some green veins in the streetscape. If you walk further, to the left of the Sacre Coer, you can also make out the Eiffel Tower between a fence, looking like a huge construct between all the houses that seem so small. Standing underneath the Eiffel Tower, it seems very big, compared to the surrounding buildings, but from Montmartre it looks like a giant from a sci-fi movie or King Kong next to normal people. Surreal what a shift of perspective can do.

In another recent Post I have already shared how you can reach Montmartre by public transportation, in a very elegant way, by using Funiculaire de Montmartre. Ever wanted to ride a funicular? Now is your ideal chance!

If you want to enjoy a panoramic view of Paris, and Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre, I can also highly recommend the Panoramic Terrace at Galeries Lafayette (free of charge).

Views you can enjoy from Sacre Coeur in Montmartre, Paris

Once at the top, you can either enjoy the boundless view or continue walking to the left of the Sacre Coeur in the direction of the artists’ quarter. On the street corners and in the squares, people play music and sing, and from the many street cafés you can watch the whole thing while enjoying a delicious meal or having a portrait painted by one of the many freewheeling artists. Of course, the small shops also offer opportunities to buy souvenirs or to purchase pictures and works of art of Paris.
If you are at the Sacre Coeur during the day and in Montmartre, you can also climb inside up the dome of the Sacre Coeur for an even better view, but unfortunately it was already closed when I was there in the evening from 7pm.
