On Top of the Civic Tower Campanone Bergamo

On Top of the Civic Tower Campanone Bergamo

The Top of the Civic Tower Campanone Bergamo is the Highest point in the Lombardian City. Reaching a height of 52 meters in the already higher situated Citta Alta, the upper town, you have an amazing round view from the top of the Civic Tower Campanone Bergamo. As the entrance is free with the Bergamo Card, I could not hesitate to climb the Civic Tower! As the Card is just an entrance Card and no Ticket you have to go to the Ticket Office, grab your official Ticket for free and enter the Building. The regular Ticket Price is 3€ per Person, read here more about the Prices.

There are two possibilities to climb Campanone Bergamo, either by stairs or with an elevator. Of course, I took the elevator. Within seconds I reached the Top, and I already loved the View. A total Round-view of Bergamo and the area around. But, I wanted more, and I got more by climbing a few more stairs. What I then saw totally shocked me and I immediately had to look the current Time up. I haven’t seen anything wrong, but three bells hanging just a few centimetres above me. One of them was enormously huge! Luckily it was 11 minutes before noon, so I had about 9 minutes to enjoy the View of Campanone Bergamo before making my way down again. All the three bells are mounted on an iron bunk and the biggest one, the “Campanone”, is even the largest historic bell in Lombardy. It has a diameter of 2.7 meters, and the weight is estimated to be about 5580 kg. The “Campanone” on Top of Campanone Bergamo was cast in 1656. The middle-sized bell dates back to 1653 and has a diameter of 1.15 meters, the smallest and oldest bell measures 0.93 meters and was cast in 1474 by Gasparino from Vicenza. The sound system of all the bells is electrified in the meantime, for an exact stroke every hour (or every half for the smallest one).

What I really liked about the Civic Tower Campanone Bergamo is how much you can actually see from it. It is possible to watch the Planes take off Bergamo Airport Orio Al Serio (BGY), all the nature in the Area around, of course as well the lesser Town of Bergamo and even the Earth’s curvature. If the weather is good you have a view as far your eyes can see, close details and gems such as the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore are of course also worth the view. If you are in Bergamo, go up the Campanone Bergamo, you won’t regret it!
