Walk across Piazza Vittoria these days, and you’ll spot a big clock standing next to the broken column, the colonna spezzata. It’s counting down. Just on 2 November 2026, it flipped to –200. Two hundred days until the first AC75s line up in the Bay of Naples, the start of the upcoming Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Naples 2027.
I’ll be honest: I’m not a sailing nerd. But a 75-foot boat lifting out of the water on its foils, with Vesuvius in the background? That’s something I want to see.
America’s Cup Naples 2027: the important dates you need
It’s the first time the America’s Cup comes to Italy, and Naples gets the whole show, from late May to mid-July 2027:
- 22–23 May: the Louis Vuitton Cup opens with an AC75 fleet-racing weekend
- 26 May–13 June: round robins and play-offs, where the challengers race each other in head-to-head match races
- 16 June–4 July: Louis Vuitton Cup semi-finals and final
- From 10 July: the America’s Cup Match, the Louis Vuitton Cup winner against defender Emirates Team New Zealand, finishing by 19 July at the latest
Reserve days are built in for wind, so treat single race days as “very likely”, not guaranteed. The official America’s Cup site has the schedule and latest updates.
And yes, Italy’s Luna Rossa is in the running. It already won the preliminary regattas in Cagliari and in Naples. If Luna Rossa makes it to the Match, honestly, I can’t imagine the noise along the seafront.
Where to watch the America’s Cup in Naples
The Race Village on the Lungomare
The Viale Francesco Caracciolo becomes the Race Village, with grandstand-style viewing spots and a main stage for sailor and trophy presentations. The racecourse sits close to shore between Castel dell’Ovo and Posillipo, so you can follow the action from land. At the September 2026 preliminary regatta, entry was free, and the main entrance was on Piazza Vittoria. Details for 2027 come with the official masterplan, so check ANSA’s countdown report and the official channels for updates.
Bagnoli, where the teams live
All team bases are being built at Bagnoli, together with an AC Tech Fan Village with big screens and food stalls. It’s the place for boat geeks who want to see the hangars.
From a bar stool
Races are broadcast on Rai and streamed on the official America’s Cup channels, including YouTube.
Why you should book your hotel now – or, yesterday
At the four-day preliminary regatta in September, about 250,000 people crowded the Lungomare. Hotels sold out, and short-term rentals with a view of the bay shot up in price. That was the warm-up. The real thing lasts three months, in peak season.
The Ministry of Tourism estimates the event’s economic impact at around €690 million, rising to as much as €1.2 billion including longer-term effects. In other words, Naples is preparing for a lot of visitors.
A few tips:
- Pick your phase. The opening weekend and the Match weekends will be the busiest. A round-robin weekday in early June is usually easier to book.
- Choose your area. Chiaia and Mergellina put you within walking distance of the Race Village. More central hotels are often cheaper and well connected by metro. My review of the Mercure Napoli Centro Angioino is a good starting point.
- Book a free-cancellation rate now, and adjust when the race calendar firms up.
- Mind the crowds. My guide to pickpockets in Italy applies twice as much on race days.
Coming from Rome? The Italo train is the easy way down. Between race days, the Amalfi Coast is right there. But book your tickets as soon as possible, you can only board an Italo train with a valid ticket and seat reservation!
